San Juan Islands

Roche Harbor, host to one of the most beautful marinas in the world. With world class facilities at an unbeatable location, Roche harbor is easily one of our favorite moorages. While you’re there be sure to explore the island hiking around the historical English camps and fresh seafood from the local fishermen on the dock or at Westcott Bay Oyster Co. Drop some crab pots around the bay for your shot at some fresh dungeness, but make sure to buy a license and follow seasonal guidelines. Reserve your spot here early as reservations fill up quickly over the summer.

Friday Harbor, another marina on San Juan island and one of the most well known towns in the islands. Friday harbor can be a good place to spend your first couple days to provision and explore San Juan island on land.Downriggers is one of many resturants here and always the first stpo on our list. Additionally, renting one of Susie’s Mopeds to explore the island is a blast and definately worth checking out. Along the route stop at the Lime Kiln Lighthouse (shown to the right) and say hi to the Orca reserach team. Maybe be lucky enough to see one of the resident pods off shore. If not, whale watching outfits commonly depart from is marina as well if thats something that interests you. Otherwise, there’s a fairly high likelyhood you’ll spot some while underway, just be sure to keep your eyes peeled. If you do be sure to keep your distance and turn off the engines and sonar system.
